The Banbury Society

Virtus et Honor

Established in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Six, within the distinguished grounds of Banbury Crossing, this Society represents the pinnacle of refined fellowship amongst gentlemen of character, taste, and discerning judgment.

Royal Charter

Article the First

Membership shall be extended exclusively to gentlemen of impeccable standing who reside within or maintain close association with the Banbury Crossing estate. Candidates must demonstrate appropriate decorum.

Article the Second

Assemblies of the Society shall be convened ad hoc, as circumstances and inclination dictate. No formal agenda is required, and discourse may range freely across topics both trivial and profound, as befits men of wide-ranging interests and cultivated minds.

Article the Third

Members are encouraged to furnish their own refreshments, though generosity of spirit and the sharing of provisions are marks of a true gentleman. The Society maintains no formal hierarchy beyond a general understanding that he who summons the assembly shall be considered its de facto organizer.

Article the Fourth

Under no circumstances shall proceedings become "weird." Gentlemen of the Society maintain appropriate decorum at all times, balancing conviviality with dignity.

Topics of Distinction

The Art of Leisure

Contemplation of one's estate and grounds, the pursuit of excellence in personal projects, and the philosophical consideration of technique and craftsmanship.

Culinary Philosophy

The science of fire, the precision of temperature, and spirited debate regarding methodology. Excellence is measured not merely in results, but in the mastery of process.

Architecture & Design

The enhancement of one's surroundings, the acquisition of quality implements, and the interpretation of regulatory frameworks governing such endeavors.

Wit & Eloquence

The exchange of bon mots and clever observations. A gentleman's humor should be both sharp and good-natured, never descending into vulgarity.

Code of Conduct

§ I.

A gentleman arrives when he arrives. Punctuality is appreciated but not mandated, as we are men of leisure pursuing fellowship, not clockwork automatons.

§ II.

Conversation may meander as it will. The natural flow of discourse among men of intelligence is not constrained by rigid agendas or arbitrary timekeeping.

§ III.

Members shall treat one another with respect and good humor, maintaining the dignity befitting the Society while cultivating genuine camaraderie.
